Gift Guide for the Girl on a Budget - Gift Guide for Him

For my third and final gift guide for the season, I'd like to suggest 5 gifts for a man in your life.  These gifts are all under $50 and would be great for a boyfriend, husband, dad, brother... any guy who you'll be buying for!

  1. Patagonia beanie - I personally love beanies and wear them all the time when it's cold outside.  If your guy wears beanies, this is one of those gifts that he could wear for years to come and get a lot of use out of!
  2. Personalized decanter  - I found this one on Etsy (I LOVE Etsy!)  If your guy enjoys a glass of whiskey from time to time, then he would love to have a fancy new decanter!
  3. Coffee subscription  - For the guy who loves coffee! A lot of coffee roasters around the country offer coffee subscriptions.  Double Shot in Tulsa is my personal favorite!  Double Shot's subscription is $17.99 per month (Yes, over $50 in the long run, but for me personally, when it's spread out month to month, it's more doable).  What guy wouldn't love a fresh pound of coffee beans delivered to his door every month?!
  4. Shave Kit  - This is one of those gifts that would come in handy all year and not necessarily the type of thing a guy is going to go out and buy for himself.
  5. Stance socks - These socks are great!  Not only do they come in a ton of super fun prints, but they are insanely comfortable to wear and no matter how much activity your guy is doing (playing sports, working, etc) his feet won't get all sweaty and stinky.

I hope you have a great time shopping this holiday season, and I hope my gift guides help give you some ideas!

Meet Betty

Introducing a new addition to my home.. my cat Betty!

I've been thinking about getting a cat for a few months now.  I wanted a cat that would be cuddly and sweet (I had a cat when I was growing up that was not cuddly and only sweet on occasion).  I got Betty (formerly known as Little Dot) from my friend Kelly and she seriously is everything I wanted!  She sleeps in the bed with me, snuggles when I watch TV and do my makeup, follows me around the house... she is perfect!  I love her so much!

Day at the Mercantile

I'm sure many of you have heard about the new Pioneer Woman Mercantile that recently opened up in Pawhuska, OK.  I've been wanting to go ever since I first heard about it!  Well, today I finally went.  My younger sister is in town for Thanksgiving from Michigan, so both my sisters, my mom, and I took this opportunity to have a fun girl's day (plus my nephew, William) and take a short road trip (about an hour and a half from Tulsa) to see what the Merc is all about.

I have to tell you, this place was everything I imagined it would be and more!  We started our day at The Merc in the quaint restaurant where we ate a delicious breakfast.  They serve lunch, too, and that menu looked just as good as the breakfast menu!

After having our fill of the wonderful food, we made our way to the store and enjoyed looking at all the things for sale.  There are a lot of goodies for your kitchen and home, and a great selection of toys for the kiddos!  I bought my nephew some play food for his play kitchen and I got myself some coasters and oven mitts.

On the second floor, there is a coffee shop and bakery.  I enjoyed a vanilla latte (If there's a vanilla latte available, I'll get one, btw) and I wish I had gotten something out of the bakery case!  It all looked so good!

Hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

DIY Breakfast at Tiffany's Halloween Costume

Today I will be sharing with you a very simple Holly Golightly costume for all of you Breakfast at Tiffany's fans out there!  Breakfast at Tiffany's is my favorite movie.  Every time I watch it, I want to move to New York and live in an apartment with a bathtub couch.  Doesn't that sound delightful?!

I put together this costume several years ago and have dressed up as Holly Golightly for a few Halloweens now.  It's so simple to achieve this look!

You will need:

  • A tiara or barrette
  • Pearl earrings - I got mine at Claire's
  • Pearl necklace - mine is from JC Penney
  • Cigarette holder - any costume store will have one
  • Black gloves
  • Black heels
  • Little Black Dress, of course!  I got my vintage dress on eBay a few years ago.

Keep reading to see how I styled my hair and makeup for this look.

Because I have no talent when it comes to hair, I don't even try Audrey's updo.  I simply tease my hair like crazy on top and put it into a bun.  The higher the pouf, the better!

For my makeup, I did a light brown shadow in the crease and black winged liner.

I am using the Morphe 35 Color Matte Palette.  As you can see in this picture, it has been very loved! This palette pretty much has every color I could ever need in it for an everyday makeup look.  The Morphe shadows are great - super easy to blend and really pigmented.

For a winged liner,  I hold the corner of my eye taut very gently.  I start with the wing and move in about halfway.  Once I have the wing the way I want it, I then go to the inner corner of my eye and go back the other way until I have one solid line.

Next, curl lashes and apply mascara.

Lastly,  apply lipstick.  Any light pink or coral shade would look great!  I used YSL Rouge Volupte Shine lipstick.  To be honest, I'm not sure what shade it is because I don't think it says it on the lipstick tube (the writing is super small) but it is a very light pink!
